About St Anselm of Bondo

The name St Anselm of Bondo was born out of friendship and encouragement. About two years ago, a dear brother and friend came up with the name as a birthday gift, drawing inspiration from St. Anselm of Canterbury (1033–1109), the great theologian known for his devotion to God and pursuit of truth. It felt like a fitting identity for this Blog. Though I am far from the stature of St. Anselm, the name serves as a gentle nudge to think deeply, live faithfully, and write honestly about the Christian life from my own little personal experience.

For a long time, I wondered whether the ups and downs of my Christian walk were unique to me. Was I the only one who wrestled with certain doubts, distractions, joys, and convictions? These thoughts often lingered, and since I have always found it easier to put words on paper than to express myself verbally, I began to write them down. The Lord used a dear friend (praise God for such friends) who encouraged me to go back to writing. Her encouragement, together with other friends after reviewing the first article (You're not missing out), gave me the courage to share publicly and openly. Looking back, I can only marvel at how the Lord has used these small offerings to bring glory to His name and encouragement to His people.

The writings, as you may have noticed, are personal. I write not as a theologian with polished answers, but as a fellow pilgrim walking the same road of faith. Each article is an honest attempt to share how God meets me in the ordinary: in the joys and struggles, the questions and prayers, the distractions and delights. I lean heavily on Scripture, since it is through God’s Word that the Spirit convicts, corrects, and comforts us. My hope is that as I share my experiences, others may see echoes of their own, and together we may be spurred on to faith, love, and good works.

I have been greatly humbled and encouraged by how the Lord has used these articles beyond what I ever imagined. Messages and feedback from readers remind me that God truly works through weakness. He takes our small loaves and fishes (our words, our experiences) and multiplies them for His glory and the good of His people. I have also been reminded that none of us walks the Christian life alone. Just as I once wondered if my struggles were unique, I now see that many brothers and sisters wrestle with similar things. This shared experience has been a beautiful testimony of God’s wisdom in giving us the local church, a family where we can comfort, encourage, and strengthen one another.

My prayer is simple:

  • To point people to the gospel of Jesus Christ, because it is our only hope.

  • To encourage a Christ-centred way of living in all areas of our Christian life.

  • To remind every Christian that ordinary faithfulness matters, and that God is present in the small and unseen parts of our lives.

  • To stir up love, faith, and good works, so that together we may walk more closely with Christ.

  • And above all, to magnify the Lord, that He may use even these writings for His glory and for the good of His people.

I hope to point you to the One to whom belongs all Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and might: our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”Ephesians 3:20–21
